The novice course is a 1 day course which includes training and testing. If the candidate is experienced and/or already holds a qualification for this machine, they can attend testing only or a refresher course.

Course Aims

The aim of the Plant Machinery Marshal Course is to provide candidates with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in marshalling plant to the NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standard.

Course Content

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry and the relevant legislation, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a vehicle / plant machinery marshal
  • Have knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular vehicle / machine to be guided
  • Have a good understanding of signs and signals, approved hand signals and different forms of communication
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for vehicle / plant machinery marshal
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area including stop blocks and tipping areas
  • Set up exclusion zone for loading / unloading
  • Guide machinery in a forward and reverse direction including confined spaces and “blind areas” safely and efficiently
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down and parking procedures

 

Qualifications Obtained

Candidates will gain either a 5-year NPORS Traditional Operator card or a 2-year NPORS CSCS Trained Operator Card.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have passed the CITB Health Safety & Environmental test (within the last 24 months) to gain the NPORS CSCS Trained Operator card. This is not required for a Traditional card, although can be added to the card if requested.
