NRSWA LA - Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus

Course Aims

To provide both Operatives and Supervisors with the skills and knowledge to carry out cable avoidance work in-line with the current NRSW Act in order to safeguard themselves and others.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

• Understand the basic principles of the current NRSW Act and standards
• Identify potential risks to themselves and others.
• Read and understand site plans.
• Operate cable avoidance tools in order to avoid or locate underground apparatus.

Who Attends

This Location & Avoidance of Underground Services training programme is designed for Operatives and Supervisors who have to locate underground apparatus for work on the roadways and highways.

Course Content

The NRSWA Location and Avoidance training course content includes:

• New Roads & Street Works Act.
• Basic principles of location and avoidance of underground services.
• Hazard identification and the risks associated with them.
• Reading and interpreting site plans.

Teaching Methods
The NRSW location and avoidance course is highly interactive with a high proportion of discussions, best practice sharing, syndicate practical exercises and case studies will be supplemented with classroom based tutorial.

Assessment Methods
Delegates will be continuously assessed during the NRSW location and avoidance course in preparation for the written exam and and practical assessment.
Supervisors have to demonstrate the ability to monitor a site and compile written reports in order to successfully complete the course.

Course Duration

This is a 1 day course.

Maximum Candidates

Maximum attendees: 8 candidates.

Qualifications Obtained

Upon successful completion delegates will receive unit accreditation by way of a certificate.

Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites: The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English. Only those with experience should attend, this is an assessment or test.
