Course Aims

To provide candidates with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in slinging loads and guiding cranes to the NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standard.

NPORS N402 - Slinger/Signaller

Who Attends

Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.

Course Content

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a Slinger / Signaller
  • Be able to conform to manufacturers requirements as per technical data, conform to relevant regulations and legislation
  • Be able to locate, identify and explain different types of lifting equipment and lifting accessories. Explain their basic construction, uses, applications and their functions
  • Be able to interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation
  • Undertake all pre-use checks on non-specialist lifting accessories and identify nonserviceable items
  • Explain procedures for placing non-serviceable items out-of-service
  • Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads
  • Set up exclusion zone explaining actions required for emergency actions, identifying any overhead hazards
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Slinger / Signaller use
  • Secure various types of loads to a hook using the relevant lifting accessories and procedures ensuring load balance, security and integrity
  • Direct and guide the movement of loads to different types of location using different methods of communication
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all out-of service and securing procedures
 
 

Course Duration

The novice course is a 2 day course which included training and testing. If the candidate is experienced and/or already holds a qualification for this machine, they can attend testing only or a refresher course.

Maximum Candidates

Maximum novices/refreshers: 3 candidates

Maximum experienced workers: 6 candidates

Qualifications Obtained

Candidates will gain either a 5-year NPORS Traditional Operator card or a 2-year NPORS CSCS Trained Operator Card.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have passed the CITB Health Safety & Environmental test (within the last 24 months) to gain the NPORS CSCS Trained Operator card. This is not required for a Traditional card, although can be added to the card if requested.

Additional Information

This course can be delivered onsite providing the onsite requirements are met.
