RMAS Hosts Site Tour at Sibbald Training

On Thursday 11th September, Sibbald Training proudly welcomed members of the Resource Management Association Scotland (RMAS) for a site tour and knowledge-sharing event.

The day began with a guided tour of Sibbald Park, the headquarters of Sibbald Training. Attendees had the opportunity to see first-hand the facilities and resources available, setting the scene for the engaging programme that followed.

The session then opened with a presentation from John McCluskey, Business Development Manager at Sibbald Training, who introduced the organisation and tackled some of the common myths around plant training in the waste industry. John’s talk highlighted the importance of robust, practical training in ensuring safety, compliance, and confidence across the sector.

The programme also featured guest speakers from across the industry:

  • Alasdair from Albion Environmental explored the theme “In the Age of AI, are CoTCs still relevant?” His presentation reviewed the development of the Certificate of Technical Competence (CoTC) in waste management, tracing its regulatory beginnings in 1994 to its current standing in today’s ever-changing environment.
  • Gordon from SWITCH (Scottish Waste Industry Training, Competency, Health & Safety) addressed the state of health and safety in the waste industry. His talk underlined the vital roles that culture, leadership, and training play in driving continual improvement, while also making the sector a more attractive and sustainable career choice.

It was a great turnout and a highly collaborative session, showcasing the shared commitment within the industry to raise standards, embrace innovation, and invest in people.
