Course Aims

To provide novice Operatives with the skills and knowledge to carry out Signing Lighting and Guarding in-line with the current NRSW Act to safeguard themselves and others.

NRSWA Novice Signing, Lighting & Guarding - Operatives (O1)

Who Attends

This Signing, Lighting and Guarding training programme is designed for Operatives who must set up traffic lights, barriers and cones on the roads and highways. This two-day option is aimed at novice or less experienced candidates and includes training and assessment. (Please note this course is for operative only).

Course Content

Signing, Lighting and Guarding training course content includes

• New Roads and Street Works Act
• Basic principles of signing, lighting and guarding
• Traffic control measures
• Practical use of the Code of Practice
• Portable traffic lights
• Practical use of equipment

Knowledge

By the end of the Signing, Lighting and Guarding training, delegates should be able to show they:

• Understand the basic principles of the NRSW Act and standards
• Identify and use correct traffic control measures
• Erect and dismantle signing, guarding, and lighting safely and in accordance with the supporting Code of Practice
• Correctly and confidently operate the equipment used

Methods

Teaching Methods


The NRSW Signing Lighting and Guarding course is highly interactive with a high proportion of discussions, best practice sharing, syndicate practical exercises and case studies will be supplemented with classroom-based tutorial.


Assessment Methods

Delegates will be continuously assessed during the NRSW Signing Lighting and Guarding course in preparation for a multiple choice theory exam by digital submission along with a practical assessment.

Qualifications Obtained

Upon successful completion delegates will receive SLG unit accreditation on their SWQR card.

Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites: The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English. This two-day option is aimed at novice or less experienced candidates and includes training and assessment.
