Course Aims

To provide thorough practical and theory telescopic handler 360 slew training, to enable the candidate to competently and safely carry out the role and pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.

Who Attends

Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.

Course Content

Provide the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating the Telehandler 360 slew safely and in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and accepted good practice.

  • Carry out a pre-shift inspection and function check
  • Be able to load and unload vehicles and static racking
  • Carry out hoist operations and suspended load duties safely
  • Understand the causes of instability of the truck and loads
  • Have sufficient knowledge and practical skills to successfully complete the CPCS Theory and Technical Tests

Candidates will participate in theory lessons and practical demonstrations / exercises covering:

  • An Introduction to the Construction Industry
  • Current relevant regulations
  • Introduction to machine
  • Pre–shift inspections
  • Controls and instruments
  • Components and safety devices on lift trucks
  • Re–fuelling systems
  • Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
  • Manoeuvring over uneven ground
  • Operators’ safety code
  • Handling loaded/unloaded pallets and long loads
  • Loading and Unloading flat bed vehicles and loading scaffold towers at various heights
  • Hoist and suspended load duties

Course Duration

This is a 10 day course which includes training and testing.

Qualifications Obtained

This course will give delegates a CPCS Red Trained Operator card (on successful completion of both CPCS Technical tests) valid for 2 years. You must work towards and achieve your SVQ/NVQ in Plant Operations within these 2 years to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Competent Operator card.

Entry Requirements

The relevant CITB Health Safety & Environmental test must be current and in date (completed within the last 24 months).
