Course Aims

This course is designed to train and assess operators in the safe operation of a reach truck.

Those attending will gain insight and knowledge on the safe use of Rider-operated Lift Trucks.
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to identify main components of the Lift Truck, operate the machine safely to a high standard in the working environment and understand current Legislation.

RTITB Reach Truck - Conversion

Who Attends

For operators who hold a current forklift license on another type of machine, such as a counterbalance lift truck.  These candidates have an understanding of forklifts already so they qualify for a conversion course rather than starting training from scratch again.

  • Introduction to lift truck
  • Starting/moving/stopping and steering the truck
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Battery care and maintenance
  • Truck stability
  • Handling pallets, containers and bulk packs
  • Driving on/off ramps and inclines
  • Principles of operating on rough terrain
  • Loading/unloading and stacking/de-stacking
  • Controls and Instruments
  • Industrial racking - ground, eye and high levels
  • Negotiating inclines
  • Stability and Pre-use inspection
  • Operator's safety code
  • Testing

Course Duration

This is a 2 day course which includes training and testing.

Qualifications Obtained

RTITB D1 Licence. We also can offer other ABA codes at your premises.
