The aim of this course is to give candidates an awareness of mental health issues in the construction industry.

1 Day Mental Health First Aid in Construction

Who Attends

Anyone in the construction industry wishing to increase their mental health awareness.

Course Content

The Mental Health First Aid in Construction covers a range of related subjects that includes:

  • Understand what mental health is, why people develop mental health
    conditions and the role of a First Aider for mental health
  • Understand the rise of mental ill health in the construction industry
    and how to tackle the stigma amongst workers
  • Know how to provide advice and practical support for a colleague
    presenting a mental health problem
  • Understand the Mental Health First Aid action plan and be able to put
    it in place
  • Know how to recognise and manage stress
  • Know how to recognise common mental health conditions
  • Understand suicide rates in the construction industry
  • Know how to support someone who is presenting warning signs of
    suicide
  • Know how to promote a positive mental health culture amongst
    workers in the construction industry
  • Know where to signpost and find further information

Methods

Teaching Methods
Teaching is conducted using video, audio, slides, graphs and descriptive media. Includes a practical scenario based sessions.

Qualifications Obtained

Completion Certificates are issued by Sibbald Limited.

Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites:  The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English

Additional Information

The Mental Health First Aidi in Construction course does not train people to be mental health workers. It offers basic general information about mental health problems.

The knowledge presented and understanding developed in the course helps to remove stigma and fear and to give confidence in approaching a person in distress.
