Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to planned lifts, and to give an understanding of the responsibilities, duties and procedures of how to plan an activity involving lifting equipment.

Who Attends

This is designed for candidates preparing to attend Appointed Person training or those who wish to gain a general understanding of what is involved in planned lifts.

Course Content

  • Legislation – LOLER, PUWER and BS7121 1, 2 and 3
  • The duties and responsibilities of lifting personnel
  • Operator functions of a mobile crane
  • Lifting accessories including the appropriate selection and use
  • Sling calculations for planned lifts
  • Risk assessments
  • Lift considerations and proximity hazards and the control measures for these
  • Duty charts and planning process of a lift
  • Ground conditions and point loading
  • Understanding the sequence of a planned lift and creating a method statement to reflect this

Qualifications Obtained

Upon successful completion of this course, candidate will receive an Inhouse Sibbald certificate, valid for 3 years.
