Course Aims

To provide thorough practical and theory articulated dump truck training, to enable the candidate to competently and safely carry out the role and pass the CPCS Theory & Practical tests.

Who Attends

Experienced operators who have not previously held a CPCS card for dump truck.

Course Content

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator
  • Name and explain the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls and terminology
  • Conform with plant manufacturer's requirements as per the operator's handbook, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation
  • Undertake all pre-use checks
  • Configure and set for travel (site and highway)
  • Travel over rough, undulating ground, steep inclines and level surfaces - loaded and unloaded
  • Manoeuvre in confined spaces whilst carrying loads
  • Ensure the suitability of the tipping and loading area
  • Explain actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services
  • Position to receive loads
  • Comply with plant loading procedures
  • Ensure load integrity and security
  • Transfer loads to different locations
  • Discharge loads into trenches and over edges
  • Maintain safe and tidy working areas
  • Carry out shutdown and securing procedures
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting

Our standard course covers endorsement B - All Sizes.

Course Duration

This is a 2 day course which includes training and testing.

Qualifications Obtained

This course will give delegates a CPCS Red Trained Operator card (on successful completion of both CPCS Technical tests) valid for 2 years. You must work towards and achieve your SVQ/NVQ in Plant Operations within these 2 years to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Competent Operator card.

Entry Requirements

The relevant CITB Health Safety & Environmental test must be current and in date (completed within the last 24 months).
