Course Aims
To provide thorough practical and theory plant training in operating a counterbalance forklift, to enable the candidate to competently and safely carry out the role and pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.
Who Attends
Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.
Course Content
- State the reasons for operator training, the risks associated with lift-truck operations and the causes of lift-truck accidents
- State the responsibilities of operators to themselves and others
- identify the basic construction and main components of the lift truck, stating its principles of operation and load-handling capabilities and capacities
- Identify, as appropriate, handling attachments which may be used with the lift truck
- Locate and state the purpose of all controls and instruments and how to use them
- place the forks or other handling attachment in predetermined positions using the appropriate controls
- Competent use of controls
- Manoeuvring a laden and unladen truck forward and in reverse in a narrowly confined area
- Stacking and de-stacking loads: at different levels, in front of a fixed vertical face, on the floor alongside similar loads
- correct procedures when loading and unloading vehicles
- Pre-use checks
- Correct parking of the truck

This is a 5 day course which includes training and testing.

Qualifications Obtained
This course will give delegates a CPCS Red Trained Operator card (on successful completion of both CPCS Technical tests) valid for 2 years. You must work towards and achieve your SVQ/NVQ in Plant Operations within these 2 years to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Competent Operator card.
Entry Requirements
The relevant CITB Health Safety & Environmental test must be current and in date (completed within the last 24 months).
