Hoist ( Non Passenger )
The Aim of the Hoist (Non Passenger) Course is to:
Provide the candidate with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating a Non Passenger Carrying Hoist.
Course Duration
3 days, this depends on the number of candidates and the ratio of candidates / machines per Instructor. Foundation course includes 1 Day Module 2 Health & Safety Course.
The Objectives of the Course are to enable delegates to:
- Be able to operate the machine safely and correctly in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and accepted good practice.
- Carry out a pre-shift inspection.
- Be able to operate safely under varying site conditions.
- Be able to carry out minor adjustments and routine services.
- Have an understanding of responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work Order & other current relevant legislation.

Hoist (Non Passenger) Course Summary

- An Introduction to the Construction Industry
- Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations
- Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations
- Health and Safety at Work Order
- Other current relevant regulations
- Introduction to machine
- Pre - shift inspections
- Factors which may affect the operation of the machine
- Techniques for operating next to other activities
- Characteristics of loads and handling techniques
- Communication and signalling procedures
- Methods and procedures for erecting and dismantling hoists
- Types and operation of safety devices
- Positioning and placing of loads at various floor levels
- Methods and procedures for putting the hoist out of service after work
Certification
Scottish Progression Award or Intermediate Certificate (ICT600) for Specialised Plant Machinery Operations, both of which lead to the issue of (CCSR) Red Trained Operators Card.
Eligible companies are able to claim grants for this training, which will pay for a substantial amount if not all of the training costs, as this course is CITB approved for grant purposes.
